The Key West Art & Historical Society will celebrate International Museum Day, May 18, by offering visitors half-off ticket prices at all three of its museums: Custom House Museum, 281 Front St.; Key West Lighthouse & Keeper's Quarters Museum, 938 Whitehead St.; and Fort East Martello Museum, 3501 S. Roosevelt Blvd.
“International Museum Day was created in 1977 to encourage awareness about the role of museums in the development of society. This year we will be celebrating sustainable cultural tourism. Key West Art and Historical Society is in the unique position to promote such cultural tourism through our three historic museum sites. We hope locals and tourists will take advantage of the half-price admission that day,” said KWAHS Director of Programs, Gerri Sidoti.
International Museum Day has been celebrated all over the world since 1977. Each year, a theme provides the opportunity for museum professionals to meet the public and to alert them to the challenges that museums face. The 2009 International Museum Day theme is “Museums and Tourism.”
