Key West Art & Historical Society’s ArtCamp 2006 is well underway. Classes began June 2nd and are held at Fort East Martello Museum. The first week of this two-month program focused on the art of local Folk artist, Jack Baron. First grade students learned about the artist by viewing his work on display at East Martello. The children then created their own sculptures, using brightly-colored paints based on Baron’s bold colors and unique “polka dot’ style. “I like seeing all the colors,” one enthusiastic student declared. Another student was impressed with Baron’s art. “He did art without lessons,” she said of the self-taught artist. Class space is available for July sessions. To register, please contact KWAHS Education Coordinator Suzanne Pereira, 295-6616, ext. 27.
