The state of Florida has always played an essential role in helping culture to prosper in the Florida Keys through generous assistance to organizations such as the Key West Art & Historical Society, said Gerri Sidoti, programs coordinator for the Society. Recently the state's Division of Historical Resources, historical Grants-in-Aid program awarded the Society $25,766 to help pay for exhibitions and other programming at The Fort East Martello Museum and Gallery, The Key West Lighthouse and Keepers Quarters and the Key West Museum of Art & History at the Custom House, she said. "This grant will help KWAHS continue its important mission to further the humanities, art and history of the Florida Keys through education, collection and preservation, and exhibition of significant art, artifacts and historical properties." Throughout the year the non-profit Society sponsors numerous exhibits of Florida's history and art as well as educational programming for adults and children utilizing its three facilities. "The state's financial support greatly improves the quality of all our programming," Sidoti said.
