Black-and-white nature photographer Clyde Butcher will exhibit his work at the Custom House, beginning March 15 through July 8. Butcher will host a slide show and lecture at 6 p.m. and a guest reception begins at 7 p.m. the night of the reception. For more than 40 years, Butcher has been preserving the untouched landscapes of Florida on film. He uses a large-format camera that allows him to capture elaborate detail and texture in his black-and-white landscapes. “This exhibit is exciting to us because Clyde will be showing some new photos for the first time,” said Claudia Pennington, CEO of the Key West Art and Historical Society. “His works are displayed in many museums, but Key West gets the first look at his new works.” Butcher’s recent projects include work for Florida’s “Save our Rivers” program, the South Florida Water Management District and the DEP. He has been honored by the state of Florida with its highest award for a private citizen, the “Artist Hall of Fame Award.” The Sierra Club awarded him the “Ansel Adams Conservation Award.” Butcher’s photographs range in size from 8-by-10 inches to 5-by-8 feet. Member of the KWA&HS are admitted free to the exhibit and lecture, none members pay $10. Membership applications are available at the Custom House. Or you can join online by Clicking Here.
