KWAHS Announces its New Executive Director

The Key West Art & Historical Society (KWAHS) is proud to announce the appointment of Michael F. Gieda as its new Executive Director on December 17th, 2012

After a national search through the American Alliance of Museums, KWAHS received over 70 applications from across the country as well as Canada, Italy and Qatar.  Careful evaluation and assessment produced a short list of 10 candidates. The Executive Search Committee interviewed potential candidates and recommended that KWAHS formally offer the position to Michael F. Gieda.

As Assistant Director of KWAHS, Michael was uniquely qualified to assume the role of Executive Director. For over 2 years he applied 21st century skills towards creating a new identity for KWAHS. Michael worked extensively overseeing the development of KWAHS’s new website, due to launch in early 2013. The new website will be a resource for the history and art of Key West. Through online access to KWAHS’s collection and archives, audiences from around the world will learn about the island’s cultural significance.

“­With Michael’s skills and leadership, we believe that he is the perfect candidate to lead KWAHS into a new era,” said David Harrison Wright, President of KWAHS’s Board of Directors.

Michael holds a B.A. in History and an M.A. in Secondary Social Studies Education from Temple University. Prior to moving to Key West, Michael taught in the Philadelphia School District and worked for the National Archives and Records Administration Mid Atlantic Branch.
