Kennish studied art and photography at Columbia College (BA 1968), The New School in NY, and the University of New Mexico. His photographs have appeared in a number of national and Western magazines, including Southern Living, New Mexico Magazine, Outdoor Magazine, Down River Magazine; and a body of commercial work for advertising agencies in the Albuquerque Santa Fe area.
Seminal influences on his photography and printing have been Georgia O'Keeffe, the FSA photographers, and George Tice. His current focus is abstracting large blocks of color from natural and architectural surroundings.
The Custom House exhibit will include photos 4' X 9' to 2' X 3'. Kennish keeps control of his photos by printing and mounting them at his Stock Island studio.
He came to the Keys in 2000, and had opened a studio at the old Pineapple Gallery, but outgrew the space and moved to the Stock Island studio in 2005.
"I am working too hard," he said from his lab, "but enjoying it. This exhibit is a great opportunity and I am pleased to be at the Custom House Museum."
