Klausing honored with Canada’s Hemingway on Stage Award
John Klausing, (holding flag) general manager emeritus of Sloppy Joe’s, was recently honored as the first recipient of the “Canada’s Hemingway on Stage Award” on the steps of the Custom House Museum, during the Hemingway Days Festival. Canadian playwright-actor Brian Gordon Sinclair, left, presented Klausing with the plaque and a check for $1,000. Sinclair, creator of the Hemingway on Stage series of plays about the author’s life, created the award to recognize a person who helps perpetuate the image and history of Ernest Hemingway. The award will be given yearly at the festival. “Half the award must be used to further the appreciation of Hemingway,” Sinclair said. “The other half, they can spend as they wish.” Klausing, surrounded by Hemingway look-alikes, turned the entire check over to the Look-Alike Society’s scholarship fund.
