Original sketches by marine wildlife artist and conservationist Guy Harvey, will open the Key West Art & Historical Society’s 2013 exhibition season for members only on Sept. 12 and open to the public on Sept. 13.
‘Depicting Hemingway,’ contains 59 original pen-and-ink drawings that follow the storyline of Ernest Hemingway’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel, ‘The Old Man and The Sea.’
Harvey, a native of Jamaica, became fascinated by the writings of Hemingway early in his life and developed the sketches following a narrative of the novel. His pen-and-ink drawings, a side many of his fans may have never seen, are as unique as Harvey’s colorful paintings of marine life.
These drawings illustrate the epic battle between Santiago and the marlin he has hooked. These early sketches helped launch Harvey’s career as an artist and were first seen when he displayed them in 1985.
The Key West Art & Historical Society is proud to present the 59 sketches, loaned to the society by Dave and Cheryl Copham, alongside a number of other objects relating to Hemingway’s life in Key West.
